FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ANAHEIM – Local Muslims to Fill the Angel Stadium with Prayer

On Tuesday, October 15, approximately 15,000 local Muslims will gather at Angel Stadium of Anaheim for communal prayers and celebration of the “Eid al-Adha” holiday. The event is organized by the three largest mosques in Orange County: the Islamic Center of Irvine (ICOI) in Irvine, the Islamic Institute of Orange County (IIOC) in Anaheim, and the Islamic Society of Orange County (ISOC) in Garden Grove.

Eid al-Adha is one of two major Islamic holidays and celebrates the culmination of the annual pilgrimage, or Hajj, which brings together millions of Muslims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The holiday and pilgrimage are a commemoration of Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice in obedience to God. As part of the Eid celebration, which takes place over four days, Muslims who can afford to do so sacrifice sheep as a symbol of Abraham’s sacrifice. The meat is then distributed to the poor and hungry both domestically and abroad.  On Eid al-Adha, Muslims around the world celebrate by performing morning prayer services, exchanging gifts, and visiting friends and family.
