Orange County Eid Prayer

A joint event brought to you by ICOI, IIOC, ISOC, and WCIS

Joint Press Release

Local Muslims pray at the Anaheim Stadium Monday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ANAHEIM, CA, September 8, 2016—

On Monday, September 12, approximately 15,000 local Muslims will gather at Angel Stadium of Anaheim for communal prayers and the celebration of the ‘Eid al-Adha’ holiday. The event is organized by the four largest mosques in Orange County: the Islamic Center of Irvine (ICOI) of Irvine, the Islamic Institute of Orange County (IIOC) of Anaheim, the Islamic Society of Orange County (ISOC) of Garden Grove, and the West Coast Islamic Society (WCIS) of Anaheim.

Eid al-Adha is one of two major Islamic holidays and celebrates the culmination of the annual pilgrimage, or Hajj, which brings together millions of Muslims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The holiday and pilgrimage are a commemoration of Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice in obedience to God. As part of the Eid celebration, which takes place over four days, Muslims who can afford to do so sacrifice sheep as a symbol of Abraham’s sacrifice. The meat is then distributed to the poor and hungry both domestically and abroad. On Eid al-Adha, Muslims around the world celebrate by performing morning prayer services, exchanging gifts, and visiting friends and family.

Media professionals interested in covering Orange County Eid activities should contact media representatives below. Interviews can be arranged with Shaykh Mustafa Umar, the Education and Outreach Director from IIOC and leader of the prayer, as well as with other representatives of the mosques.
