Over 15,00 O.C. Muslims to Commemorate the End of Ramadan with Community Prayer and Celebration

ANAHEIM, CA – July 28, 2014 – Over 15,000 Orange County Muslims are expected to gather at the Anaheim Convention Center on Monday, July 28, 2014 to commemorate “Eid al-Fitr,” or the “Festival of the Feast,” marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. One of two major holidays in the Islamic calendar, the Eid al-Fitr holiday begins in the morning with communal prayers.

Muslims generally celebrate the holiday by gathering with friends and family, exchanging gifts, and giving out sweets to children. The region’s two largest mosques – the Islamic Society of Orange County (ISOC) and the Islamic Center of Irvine (ICOI), organize the Orange County Eid al-Fitr communal prayer.

*Takbir is an expression of praise to God Almighty & recited by the congregation leading up to the prayer.

This event is an open press.  Event Organizers will meet you at the main entrance and escort you to the designated areas of Hall E.  Please wear an identification for your media affiliation.  TV media may set-up a stationary camera in the designated area, as well. Please check-in by 8:30AM.  There will be press availability with community leaders & Imams after the prayer service at the designated area for members of the press.  Please note that there will be no reserved parking for press.
